On Saturday, February 20th, 2010, Dollars For Mammograms, Inc. held their first ever Pink Ribbon Brunch:  A Celebration of Hope

Approximately 135 people attended the event which was held at the Rotunda Hills Golf & Country Club.  The banquet hall was elegantly decorated with pink napkins and pink centerpieces.  Each table was festive and beautiful and reminded everyone of the cause in a subtle yet beautiful way.  In one corner of the room was a bamboo tree from which 20 origami cranes floated.  These cranes were created as symbols of hope and healing by Ann Stegner, of the Passionate Pinks, a group of women from Riverwood who are working for breast cancer awareness.

The centerpiece of the event was a panel discussion in which six women reflected upon their journies through the medical, social, emotional and spiritual aspects of facing breast cancer.   Almost unanimously, it was revealed that self examination and mammograms detect breast cancer.  Although breast cancer is not preventable, early detection improve chances for a cure.   The discussion, which was facilitated by Bobbie Marquis, featured panelists: Dawn Campo, Darlene Wright, Eileen Kowalski, Jill Brown, Maureen Leahy, and Sharon Szepi.

Sponsors of the event were Dr. Cynthia Davis, The Farr Law Firm, Englewood Community Hospital, Key Agency, and Pro Audio Services.  Proceeds from this event will be used to provide no cost mammograms to area women who can not afford them.
