Our future goal is to provide more breast related medical services for women who can't afford them.

heart_in_handsDollars For Mammograms was incorporated in May 2000.  Seed money to establish this corporation came from Monies For Mammograms, Inc.  The monies from the earlier corporation were donated anonymously by a wealthy man in memory of his wife who died from breast cancer.

New Articles of Incorporation were written by Lori Wellbaum Wolffe and filed. Tish Mercier, CPA, filed for our 501(C)(3) non profit status.  Both donated their services.   In August of 2005, we were granted a permanent status of a non profit 501(C)(3) tax deductible public foundation.

Englewood School District was established as our service area and we wrote our mission statement. Shortstop Printing donated their services for our needed forms. Karin Drury & Rita Bertler with Business and Professional Women (BPW) of Englewood, worked on finding an imaging center at an affordable price.  Rita contacted Robert Meade, CEO, Englewood Community Hospital and they became our imaging center, and have continually provided a  portion of the service fee in the form of in-kind donations.

As our funds increased, we were able to offer compression mammograms and breast ultrasounds to our recipients.

In June of 2006, we expanded our service beyond the Englewood School District to include Northport (34287) Venice (34293) and Port Charlotte (33953.)

In May 2008, we once again expanded.  Fawcett Memorial Hospital came on board as our new imaging center for the women in Eastern Charlotte County.

Today we service area women who live within the zip code boundaries of:
  • Englewood & Grove City 34223 & 34224,
  • Cape Haze & Rotonda West 33947,
  • Placida 33946
  • Boca Grande 33921
  • Port Charlotte 33948, 33952, 33953,  33954, 33980, 33981 and 33983
  • Punta Gorda: 33950, 33955, 33982
  • North Port 34286, 34287, 34288, 34289 & 34291

Dr. Raul Verde, radiologist, provides no-cost readings for the mammograms and breast ultrasounds.  His in-kind donation has been invaluable support to DFM.
